If there’s one thing we all have in common, it’s the love of our dogs. Those of us with fur babies, no matter what kind, love to include them in our social activities whenever we can. Whether hiking, visiting friends, or spending the day at a winery, our dogs are happier when they’re with us, and the feeling is mutual.

Pet friendly wineries are a great way to kick back and relax while enriching your dog’s life. The smells, the sights, and the inevitable new friends—human and canine alike—are a sure way to ensure your pup lives a charmed life.

Winery visits with your furry pal are also an opportunity to implement training which can lead to a closer bond than ever before. Make it a regular thing, and you’ll be amazed how quickly your dog learns the proper winery etiquette. It’s not just good for their confidence—it improves yours, too!

Tips For Planning A Pet Friendly Winery Visit

You know your dog best. Consider their preferences and limitations to pick the right pet friendly wineries to visit together.

For example, older dogs may need easy access around the property, with short walks from the car to their inevitable snoozing spot. A comfortable area to relax and people-watch is a must! Active pets, on the other hand, may prefer bigger wineries with expansive lawns to run and nearby trails to explore. And “lover pets” (you know the kind!) will want wineries with lots of foot traffic to increase their chances of pats, praise, and new doggie friends to sniff.

Tips to Ensure Your Pet Is Well Behaved And Comfortable During Your Visit

The key to a successful winery visit with your dog is a solid understanding of training. Work with a trainer outside of your visits to learn how your dog communicates and how you can let them know what’s expected of them when wine o’clock arrives. Bring all the training tools and treats you need to set your pup up for success and give them plenty of exercise before you arrive!

Similarly, be aware of your pets’ limitations. Is your dog not a fan of hats, bicycles, or other dogs? Be sure to pick a winery with plenty of space so that your dog doesn’t get put in a situation they aren’t comfortable in.

And remember, your dog wants to relax just as much as you! Bring a cozy blanket or a bed, their favorite toy and treats, and a water bowl.
