Napa Green was created in 2004 to establish practices designed to “improve the health of the Napa River and watershed by preventing erosion & soil runoff.” Since then, the organization has adopted a “best practices” model for regulatory compliance regarding water discharge and offers a sustainability certification that acknowledges regenerative farming, positive climate action, and social equity within the wine industry. These efforts support the growth of sustainable wineries in Napa Valley and align with broader goals for certified organic wineries and other green efforts.

Napa Green is one of only four nationwide programs offering comprehensive soil-to-bottle certification. This certification is widely adopted in Napa County, where nearly 40% of all certified sustainable wineries in California are located, contributing to the region’s reputation for sustainable wineries in Napa Valley.
