Wine is art, and art is life. A great work of art can make us pause to reflect on our world, ourselves, our future, and our past. Fine art is a fascinating medium to pair with wine because both facilitate different sensory experiences. Wine activates our senses of smell, taste, and often memory. On the other hand, fine art is primarily visual and has the power to drum up emotions and ideas. Together, they make an experience like none other.

How the wine gallery works

With a passion for facilitating these kinds of experiences, Jessup Cellars is an art gallery in addition to a winery and tasting room. Guests can stroll our gallery at their leisure, sipping locally made, terroir-driven wines.

Walking through the gallery, you might experience new thoughts, feelings, or sense memories, as you sip the wine of your choice and ponder the visuals in front of you. The act of walking invites you to view art from different angles and can get your mind thinking in ways you might not otherwise.

But there’s also immense value in choosing a seated tasting, allowing our staff to guide you through a selection of wine and cheese. After focusing all your attention and leisure on the dining experience, you can stroll through the gallery and see what catches your eye.

The wines you choose from are colors for your palate: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Zinfandel. Or you may prefer to explore the art of the blend. In a red blend, each grape offers new flavors, acidity, textures, tannins, and body while weaving a unique story from the front palate to the mid-palate and eventual finish.

October artist in residence: Penelope Moore

Whether it’s wine, food, or art, we love to change it up. Our gallery features a rotating exhibit of local artists. This October, Penelope Moore is moving into our space and making it her own. Moore paints her wine-tasting notes, drawing a connection between senses of smell, taste, and imagery for the viewer. Each painting is done at different locations at different moments in time, embodying the essence of terroir.

Join us for The Synchronicity of Tastemakers on November 23rd

The opening to More’s exhibit is just around the corner. As the weather cools, it’s time to look inward at what happens when we lift a glass of wine to our noses. Join us on November 23rd, from 6:00-8:00 pm to partake in a prix fixe dinner from Chef Clinton Huntsman of G Street Kitchen, whose menu will be directly inspired by some of her featured artworks in the gallery. Penelope, Chef Clinton, and Jessup Cellars winemaker, Bernardo Munoz, will be hosted by Zahrah Farmer of ABC’s “Days With Zahrah” to discuss how each of their disciplines pull from their own unique sensory experiences.

Reserve your tickets here.

Moore’s collection is four years in the making, and it’s an honor to host her at the wine gallery at Jessup Cellars. We invite you to bring your most creatively driven loved ones for a night of exploring the unseen world of taste and smell–visually.
